Christmas, filled with sacredness and sincere hopes, symbolizes purity and spirituality brought by the birth of Jesus Christ. Many canonical and apocryphal texts about the birth of the Son of God have been preserved. As people have interpreted them for two millennia, each in their own way, they have expressed their devotion to Jesus through prayer, songs, or ritual actions. Among these traditions, the practice of setting up a nativity scene, a representation of Christ's birth, has endured.

The name for the nativity scene varies depending on the country. In the Ukrainian language, this word, as well as the tradition itself, came from Poland. Initially, nativity scenes were set up in churches from Christmas to the Presentation of the Lord, but later, miniatures of the Bethlehem stable appeared in the homes of wealthy Ukrainian families.
